Meanwhile In The US – A CMC inmate wounds six guards with a plastic cup

Six California Men’s Colony correctional officers were sent to the hospital with injuries this morning after being attacked by an inmate who authorities say was trying to commit suicide.

Christopher McCoy, 34, was discovered by staff around 8:45 a.m. attempting to commit suicide by using a noose he had made out of cloth.

When prison staff intervened, McCoy attacked them with a plastic cup and his fists, causing multiple lacerations and other injuries.

All of the officers have since been released from the hospital, said CMC spokesman Lt. Robert Furster. Only one officer had serious injuries, but not life threatening.

McCoy was transported to a community hospital for treatment of injuries he received during the fight. Furster did not disclose those injuries.

McCoy is serving a life sentence without parole for first-degree murder. He was sentenced in Mendocino County on June 10, 1999.

He was housed in the administrative segregation unit of the prison and had behavioral problems in the past, said Furster.

The case will be forwarded to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
