This is just to thank you all for your overwhelming response to our request to write to Brendan O’Connor, Minister for Home Affairs and Justice, re the illegal importation of dog fur into Australia. Although he was swamped with mail and requests from thousands of Australians asking him to act, he has done nothing.
I was finally granted a meeting (six months after my request and when most of the winter stock had been withdrawn) with three of his senior staff who said they would be taking no action. Perhaps at the end of 2013 they will add our request to a general review of Customs!
This is unacceptable. Millions of dogs will continue to be killed to feed this horrific trade so it is vital we do not let them down.
We have been keeping the issue in the public eye and had a good story on George Negus followed by around 100 other press mentions.
Our press pack has a bit more information as does our Fur Trade information page. On this page you will also find a link to a petition which has been generated by Change.org. It will take you just 10 seconds to add your weight.
Thanks so much for all your help so far and just to let you know we will continue to fight for the millions of innocent dogs that are suffering for this horrific trade. Our Government may not care but millions of voters do.
With thanks and regards
